Knights of Columbus Father Filipow Council
Over
the years, Saint Nicholas men have been involved in the Knights of Columbus
within various local councils. On April 19, 1985, Father Filipow Council No.
8944 was chartered as a parochial Council at St. Nicholas Church. Father Leon
Yakubow, OSBM was the first Charter Chaplain and Sir Knight Peter Muzyka was
the first Charter Grand Knight.
The
Council was named after Father
Athanasius Filipow, OSBM, who served as Parish Priest of St. Nicholas
for over 26 years. Today, over fifty dedicated Brother Knights encourage one
another in the Faith, through works of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.
This organization is particularly supportive of families and family values.
Father Filipow Council is involved in various community and parrochial activities, most recently in supporting the Dialysis-Oncology Units at Seven Oaks Hospital. Each year, at the beginning of June, the Council holds a major funraiser in the parish hall- a garage sale and silent auction.
Father Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM is currently Chaplain of the Council, and George Ehr is the current Grand Knight. In 2001, through an intense membership drive, our Council gained 10 new members. In 2004, nine brother knights volunteered as assistant church sacristans.
